Ag-AgCl TP electrode
Part #: EL254, EL254RT, EL254S, EL258, EL258H, EL258RT, EL258S

Silver-silver chloride (Ag-AgCl) electrodes provide accurate and clear transmission of surface biopotentials. EL250 Series reusable lead electrodes are suitable for most applications (ECG, EEG, EGG, EMG, EOG, and ERS recordings). For best signal performance use shielded electrodes (EL254S or EL258S) as recording electrodes and unshielded electrodes (EL254 or EL258) as ground or reference electrodes. Generally, for each Biopotential amplifier module, two EL254S or EL258S and one EL254 or EL258 are required.

EL250 series reusable electrodes are permanently connected to robust and pliable leadwires (1 mm OD). The leadwires terminate in standard Touchproof connectors. Unshielded electrodes terminate in a single Touchproof connector. Shielded electrodes terminate in two Touchproof connectors, one connects to the Ag-AgCl disk and the other connects to the leadwire shield. Use reusable electrodes with adhesive collars and gel; GEL104 can be used for long-term, non-irritating, monitoring applications.

  • Use EL258 (8 mm recording diameter) for most applications
  • EL254S and EL258S are shielded electrodes; best used as recording electrodes
    • BioNomadix units have no active drive circuit for shielded leads
  • EL258H features a 2 mm gel injection hole, useful for EEG monitoring; use as both recording and reference electrodes
  • Use EL254 (4 mm recording diameter) when closely spaced biopotentials are required
  • Use EL254-RT or EL258-RT for animal MRI setups

Reusable Ag/AgCl Electrode Features

BIOPAC EL250 Series reusable electrodes incorporate a variety of features which improve biopotential recordings:

  1. Non-polarizable
  2. Sintered to increase electrode/electrolyte contact area
  3. Do not require chloriding
  4. Reusable via resurfacing
  5. High stability recordings, to DC, when used with chloride salt gel electrolyte
  6. Electrolyte gel cavity reduces artifact due to electrolyte/electrode motion and minimizes electrolyte dissipation/drying over long-term recordings
