Airflow Transducer
Part #: SS11LB, SS11LA

The SS11LB handheld airflow transducer is intended for human use and can be used to perform a variety of tests relating to airflow and lung volume. The transducer is factory-calibrated to measure airflows within -10 to +10 L/second within ±5%. The transducer has a removable head (RX117A) for sterilization and replacement.

  • No calibration syringe is required.
  • Airflow measurement is much less susceptible to changes in transducer orientation.
  • New tiered airflow head design allows for direct connection to multiple standard pulmonary ID/OD hoses and components without the need for couplers.
  • Flow correction that was previously only included in lessons (via syringe) is now in Lessons and BSL PRO analog preset.

Use standard disposable mouthpieces with disposable bacterial filters, or use an autoclavable mouthpiece, depending on your budget and/or lab preference. Direct connection to AFT36 35 mm Filtered mouthpiece. The SS11LB can also be used with the AFT22 Non-Rebreathing T-valve for low dead space requirements, and to monitor expiration and inspiration signals separately.

SS11LB is compatible with BSL 4.1.1 and above or AcqKnowledge 4.4.2 and above.

Older model SS11LA with RX117 is available for systems running BSL 4.1.0 and below or AcqKnowledge 4.4.1 and below (software upgrade recommended), and is the shipping airflow transducer model for Chinese and Russian BSL 3.7 Systems. Use AFT1 Filter + AFT2 mouthpiece with SS11LA flow head RX117.

Details

For the most accurate measurements, transducer should be warmed up for two minutes prior to use (no airflow required).

The detachable flow head (RX117A or RX117) is dishwasher safe.

Recommended sterilization: cold sterilization (i.e., Cidex) or autoclave.

Users may still perform their own calibrations using the optional FLOWCAL kit and downloadable template.  The user calibration values are stored with the transducer, so the user calibration is applied on any computer to which the transducer is connected.  The factory calibration may also be automatically restored by the user.

BSL 4.1.1 software is required to use the SS11LB.  Earlier software versions will not recognize the transducer or apply the factory calibration.

Medium Airflow Head Connections

The SS11LB, TSD117A, and TSD117A-MRI transducers use flow head RX117A, which has multiple outer diameters to directly connect to the AFT36 filter/mouthpiece, AFT7L tubing, and other pulmonary products.

AFT Series Part # RX117A Flow Head Coupler/Combination/Notes
AFT1 Direct connection to RX117A, but not recommended due to airflow restriction;  use AFT36 in place of AFT1 + AFT2.
AFT6A Not recommended for RX117A. Use FLOWCAL calibration kit. May still be connected to the RX117A using the AFT11A coupler included with the AFT6A.
AFT7L Direct connection to RX117A.
AFT8 Autoclavable Mouthpiece Either connect directly if sterilizing airflow head. If not sterilizing head can use AFT4 disposable filter (connect AFT8 to smaller diameter of filter, larger diameter to RX117A).
AFT9 Reusable Mouthpiece 35 mm – replaced by AFT8 Autoclavable Mouthpiece; the AFT8 has a better fit with the RX117A.
AFT10 Disposable Facemask AFT11H 35 mm OD/28.6 mm ID.
AFT12 Direct connection to RX117A. Snug, but fits in the inner diameter of airflow head.
AFT13 (OBSOLETE) AFT13 has been discontinued. Replaced by the AFT36 filter/mouthpiece.
AFT23 Low-cost T-Valve Reusable mouthpiece: AFT4 + AFT8 + AFT11D 35 mm OD/35 mm OD

Disposable mouthpiece:  AFT36 + AFT11D 35 mm OD/35 mm OD

AFT26 2 L syringe AFT11D 35 mm OD/35 mm OD. This coupler is included in the FLOWCAL calibration kit.
AFT36 Disposable Filter with Integrated Mouthpiece Direct connection to RX117A.
