Dr. Jonathan Schooler and Dr. James Elliott from the University of California Santa Barbara will discuss mindfulness techniques, benefits, and implications for psychophysiology research. Schooler and Elliott conduct research at the Memory Emotion Thought Awareness Lab (META) on the impact of meditation and mindfulness techniques on attenuating mind-wandering. They explore techniques for enhancing mindfulness that improve behavior and sharpen focus of participants.

About Jonathan Schooler

Jonathan Schooler Ph.D. is a Distinguished Professor of Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of California Santa Barbara.  He earned his BA from Hamilton College in 1981 and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1987. His research on human cognition explores topics that intersect philosophy and psychology, such as how fluctuations in people’s awareness of their experience mediate mind-wandering and how exposing individuals to philosophical positions alters their behavior.

About James Elliott
James Elliott Ph.D. is an Assistant Project Scientist at the University of California Santa Barbara and Lecturer in the Psychology and Child Development Department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. His research areas are Cognition, Perception, and Cognitive Neuroscience.

Dr. Lusted Ph.D. is a founding partner at Senstream, Inc. He earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Stanford University School of Medicine in 1980 and has since focused on developing high-quality portable biosignal acquisition systems. Dr. Lusted was a founding partner at BioControl Systems where he developed early-generation wearables for EEG, EMG, ECG, and EOG applications.
