BIOPAC Systems is excited to partner with Seenel Imaging to announce a groundbreaking wearable neuroimaging device for neuroscience research, MedelOpt.

Brain and behavior researchers can easily combine electrical and hemodynamic data with a new tool/solution to obtain the best measurements of neurophysiological and hemodynamic activity. MedelOpt is a whole-head fNIRS and EEG device suitable for mobile, in-lab stationary, and multi-subject applications.

This presentation will include a live demo using MedelOpt for simultaneous fNIRS/EEG recording during a motor task. We will show you how to set up the device, record whole-brain activity, and plot the average brain response with particular attention to the motor cortex. The high number of emitters and detectors as well as the unique headset design allow optical imaging recording that can provide whole-brain and regional recordings from the prefrontal cortex to the motor regions for precise mapping of brain activity. Based on a simple hand-grasping motor task, we will show you how to plot the average hemodynamic response on multiple channels and obtain a brain cortical projection of fNIRS activity.

You will learn the following

  • Principles of functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS)
  • How to carry out simultaneous fNIRS/EEG recordings
  • Proper setup of equipment for whole-brain very high density fNIRS/EEG recordings
  • How to obtain optical imaging of the motor cortex
  • Methods for basic analysis of brain activity with fNIRS
  • Research applications of fNIRS and EEG
  • How to integrate MedelOpt with BIOPAC devices for multimodal data acquisition

About Thomas Fontaine

Thomas is the CEO and founder of Seenel Imaging. Prior to Seenel Imaging, Thomas spent a large part of his career working in leading worldwide medtech companies e.g., Medtronic, Covidien. He embraced several positions in France and EMEA in Sales & Marketing positions. The company, a spin-off of an INSERM university hospital laboratory headed by Professor Fabrice Wallois, was created in 2018.

About Emeline Mullier

Dr. Emeline Mullier, obtained her Ph. D. in 2020 in the lab supervised by Prof. Patric Hagmann at Lausanne University Hospital, Switzerland. During the thesis, her research was focused on linking structural and functional connectivity (dynamic functional connectivity) using new computational methods. She applied these techniques on a cohort of patients with schizophrenia and then on a cohort of children with autism spectrum disorders during a postdoc with Prof. Marie Schaer in Geneva, Switzerland. She joined Seenel Imaging as a Neuroscience Application Specialist in 2021 to work on new bimodal neuroimaging device EEG/NIRS combining electrophysiological and hemodynamic responses.
