This webinar is ideal for new and experienced researchers using Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) in their studies or for individuals who wish to improve their understanding of strategies and techniques available for obtaining and analyzing great optical brain imaging data. Optical brain imaging technology provides researchers with a powerful method to study a variety of brain functions, including (but not limited to) attention, working memory, planning, decision making, problem-solving, etc. Cognitive Optical Brain Imaging (COBI) Studio is a hardware integrated software platform designed for functional Near Infrared (fNIR) Spectroscopy imaging systems. fNIRSOFT is a stand-alone software package designed to process, analyze and visualize functional near-infrared spectroscopy signals through a graphical user interface and/or scripting (for automation). In this webinar hosted by BIOPAC Systems and fNIR Devices, BIOPAC and fNIR Devices representatives and experts from academia will provide viewers with in-depth “how to” techniques, tips, and procedures for using these two powerful software tools to obtain and analyze great optical brain imaging data.

Experiment Setup and Data Acquisition

  • Subject setup and sensor placement
  • Introducing COBI Studio software and recording fNIR data
  • Creating custom data layout views for real-time display of the data
  • Recording high-quality data—adjusting light intensity and setting detector gain levels and ensuring the data is in the correct range, comparison of quality/problematic data
  • Time synchronization using automated and manual event marks

fnirsoft optical brain imaging dataSignal Processing and Data Analysis

• Opening files from COBI Studio in fNIRSoft software
• Preparing data for analysis—signal conditioning, noise removal and managing artifacts including a comparison of “good” vs. “bad” data
• Using event markers for block analysis
• Analyzing and displaying the data
• Automating analysis through scripting
