H19 VO2 & RER

This BSL PRO lesson records absolute volume of O2 and CO2 in a 60-second interval.

The lesson was updated in December 2019 to use GASSYS3 Gas Analysis System.

The lesson was updated in May 2015 for BSL 4.0.1 and in Jan 2012 to include an optional 2-point calibration; the graph template gtl and the gtl settings PDF were updated to reflect this change.

Experimental Objectives

  1. To obtain absolute VO2 and RER values for a subject at rest (optional segments include hyperventilation and recovery from exercise).
  2. To demonstrate the relationship between VO2 and RER.

Tasks Performed by the Student

Subject will:
  • breath through a mouthpiece
  • exercise (optional)
  • hyperventilate (optional)
