This lesson includes detailed instructions for the frog preparation procedures necessary for BSL PRO lessons A02, A03, and A04.
To become familiar with the procedure for preparing the frog gastrocnemius muscle and its sciatic nerve (pithing, skin removal, muscle, and nerve isolation) in order to complete subsequent lessons with the following objectives.
Tasks Performed by the Student
Pith the frog
Remove the skin
Isolate the sciatic nerve and attach it to the transducer
Isolate the gastrocnemius muscle and attach it to the transducer
Dissect the sciatic nerve
Add event markers throughout the recording.
The software automates the calibration procedure for the student. There are no knobs and dials to confuse the student.
Graph template files ensure consistent setup for subsequent Subjects or repeated trials—plus, you can easily add your own lesson plan to the onscreen journal.
The lesson will also work as part of a group study.

The RSP Respiration Smart Amplifier is specifically designed for recording signals from a respiration transducer for direct physical measurement of respiratory effort. The amp works with the transducer to measure abdominal or thoracic expansion and contraction while breathing and permits DC coupling for the recording of respiratory effort signals of arbitrarily low frequency. BIOPAC’s new Smart […]
BIOPAC provides researchers with a complete range of tools to gather data on heart rate variability (HRV). The following studies demonstrate just some of the ways in which HRV research benefits from the implementation of BIOPAC hardware and software solutions. PTSD and HRV Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been associated with dysfunction of the autonomic […]
