Conditioned Stimuli and Fear: Conditioned stimuli used to elicit overt behavior is a common experimental paradigm in animals, but not with humans. Researchers at the University of Zurich thus tested whether Heart Period Responses (HPR) and conditioned stimuli are a suitable complement to SCR when testing fear memory with humans. Subjects’ psychophysiological data was recorded using a BIOPAC MP150 data acquisition system and skin conductance amplifiers. Read the full study here.

HRV and Postmenopausal Women: Postmenopause brings significant changes to women’s heart rate, so it is important to understand what impact autonomic regulations and physical activities have. Kirti Rawal, B. S. Saini, and Indu Saini measured Heart Rate Variability (HRV) young and postmenopausal women in various postures to determine the possibility for a reliable algorithm in detecting HRV variations between young and postmenopausal women. A BIOPAC MP150 system recorded two ECG data sets which were used to evaluate heart rate with AcqKnowledge software. Find the entire experiment here.

Nonverbal Signal Processing in Literature: A recent article aimed at investigating the processing of emotional facial expressions and nonverbal vocal signals described in literature through a series of three experiments. The separate experiments addressed the research questions relating to processes of imagery and simulation that may guide the decoding of described vocal and facial cue using behavioral and psychophysiological measures. The third experiment incorporated SCR data which was recorded using a BIOPAC MP150 with AcqKnowledge software. The full article is available here.
