H36 Muscular Biofeedback
Biofeedback is a form of self-regulation in which an individual is provided information in the form of sensory feedback about a biological condition or function in order to gain control over that biological function.
Experimental Objectives
-
To measure changes in EMG with maximal contraction, as compared to baseline, incorporating different combinations of visual and auditory feedback.
-
To design experiments by selecting different types of muscles and variations of contractions/activities relating to biofeedback that the subject will perform.
Tasks Performed by the Student
May vary, but in example experiment, Subject will:
-
sit and relax with knees hanging off the edge of a table or seat, with enough room for full knee extension,
-
look away from the computer monitor and maximally relax (not contract),
-
look away from the monitor and maximally contract (knee extension) and hold for 2 seconds, and
- look at the screen and maximally contract (knee extension) and hold for 2 seconds.
