Cardiovascular – Biology

Lessons include blood pressure, ECG analysis, heart sounds, and pulse. Students can make single-, three-, six- and 12-lead ECG recordings, familiarizing themselves with Einthovens triangle and mean electrical axis of the frontal plain. Students perform blood pressure measurements using a cuff, with stethoscope, employing Korotkoff sounds to make determinations of systolic/diastolic pressure. Students can also utilize the latest technology for continuous noninvasive BP recordings. Use the bioimpedance cardiac output (CO) module on human and animal subjects to record stroke volume and cardiac output. By measuring continuous BP, simultaneous with flow (cardiac output), students can examine vascular resistance.

General-purpose Electrodes These pre-gelled disposable electrodes have a circular contact and are most suitable for short-term recordings, including surface EMG, ECG, EOG, etc. The small vinyl backing allows close electrode placement where necessary, and a slightly less firm adhesive allows "ouchless" removal. The electrodes incorporate liquid electrolyte gel and moderately-high chloride salt concentration for quick, accurate readings.…

Bioimpedance Strip Electrodes This disposable strip electrode is used for bioimpedance applications. Each carbon film strip electrode uses isotonic hydrogel to adhere to the participant and provide a conductive medium. The electrodes have a fabric backing for added comfort and conformity to the subject. The electrode uses a snap fit stud for easy interfacing with BIOPAC electrode leads. Advantages of…

Multi-lead ECG Cable (MP3X) The SS29L Multi-Lead ECG Cable permits high resolution electrodcardiogram recordings. The lead set will allow you to simultaneously record Leads I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF, plus one precordial chest lead. A 12-Lead ECG recording can be obtained by alternating the chest lead electrode from position V1 through V6. The cable is terminated in three…

Lead set, shielded, BSL This fully-shielded cable assembly permits high resolution recording of biopotentials using our EL500 series disposable electrodes. The 2 meter adapter is terminated with standard pinch connectors to interface with EL500 series snap electrodes. The SS2LB interfaces with Biopac Student Lab data acquisition units (MP3X or MP45) and the MP36R research unit. Compatible releases BSL Lessons…

Photoplethysmogram for Pulse Waveform – MP3X/45 The SS4LA photoplethysmogram (PPG) transducer operates with the data acquisition unit to record the blood volume pulse waveform via optical methods. The SS4LA consists of a matched infrared emitter and photo diode detector, which transmits changes in infrared reflectance resulting from varying blood flow. Blood is highly reflective of near infrared light wavelengths, due to the…

Stethoscope for BSL The BSL Stethoscope was developed to teach students the standard procedure for listening to heart sounds and Korotkoff sounds with a normal stethoscope and at the same time record sound data. A microphone in the stethoscope simultaneously records the sound the student is hearing, and the BSL software will display the soundwave during and after…

Noninvasive Cardiac Output Sensor – MP3X The SS31LA simultaneously measures Impedance Magnitude (Zo; labeled “Z” on the module) and Derivative of Impedance Magnitude (dZ/dt; labeled “DZ” on the module). The SS31LA noninvasively records the parameters associated with Cardiac Output measurements. Measure changes in Cardiac Output under a variety of conditions: laying down, sitting up, standing up, and post-exercise. Use the Kubicek…
