Biomechanics – Exercise

Students use the reflex hammer in conjunction with EMG recordings to compare responses and reflex actions. For advanced studies, add angle of limb movement as a subject performs a variety of tasks. The system has transducers for recording heel and toe strike and acceleration for gait analysis studies. Use the hand dynamometer and accelerometer to measure isotonic and isometric performance. Goniometers are available for evaluating one or two degrees of freedom from the same joint (e.g. wrist flexion/extension and radial/ulnar deviations). Use the X/Y display mode to monitor motion resulting from two degrees of freedom. The BSL software will determine velocity of motion and calculate acceleration.

EDA Electrodes These dry electrodes are designed for electrodermal activity (EDA) measurements—application of GEL101A isotonic gel (available separately) is required for EDA measurements to establish physiological ionic equivalency to the skin surface. The electrodes conform and adhere well to a variety of skin surfaces. Typically, they are applied around fingers to create a firm bond. These electrodes…

Goniometers & Torsiometers – MP3X/45 Dual-axis devices provide simultaneous measurements around two orthogonal rotational axes and single output devices measure axial rotation about a single plane. Use with MP3X or MP45 unit. SS20L and SS21L dual-axis goniometers measure limb angular movement (e.g., wrist flexion/extension and radial/ulnar deviations). SS22L and SS23L single-axis torsiometers measure forearm pronation/supination. SS24L single-axis goniometer measure joint movement…

Accelerometers – MP3X Tri-axial Accelerometers connect directly to the MP3X unit to provide three outputs, each simultaneously measuring accelerations in the X, Y, and Z directions, requiring no additional amplification. One input channel is required for each output—three input channels are required to measure each axis simultaneously. The accelerometers have a frequency response which extends from DC to…

Lead set, shielded, BSL This fully-shielded cable assembly permits high resolution recording of biopotentials using our EL500 series disposable electrodes. The 2 meter adapter is terminated with standard pinch connectors to interface with EL500 series snap electrodes. The SS2LB interfaces with Biopac Student Lab data acquisition units (MP3X or MP45) and the MP36R research unit. Compatible releases BSL Lessons…

Finger Goniometer 35 mm – MP3X/45 SS24L is used to measure finger joint movement. The gauge mechanism in this single-axis goniometer allows for accurate measurement of polycentric joints. Telescopic endblocks compensate for changes in distance between the two mounting points as the limb moves.  One MP3X/45 channel is required for output. Use medical adhesive tape (TAPE2) to attach to the body. See…

Heel/Toe Strike Transducer – MP3X/46/45 Use this transducer to record heel and toe strike activity as the subject walks. The SS28LA uses two force sensitive resistors (FSR); typically, one FSR is attached to the sole of a shoe at the heel and the other FSR is attached at the toes. The FSRs indicate the precise pressure placed on the heel…
