BSL Physiology Labs Enhance Medical Education – new citation

A recent study added Biopac Student Lab musculoskeletal and cardiovascular physiology labs to traditional osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and found that “Students' favorable feedback indicates the quality of learning in the laboratories was enhanced by the addition of physiologic measurements.”

Using BSL hardware and software to record, interpret, and analyze real-time changes in specific physiologic signals before and after OMT enabled quantification of physiologic responses to OMT.

Data was recorded and analyzed using a Biopac Student Lab Human Physiology Teaching System with photo plethysmogram transducer for pulse data, hand dynamometer transducer for clench-force muscle response data, and disposable electrodes for surface EMG and ECG data.

Student comments indicated that adding BSL Labs to training from lectures/textbooks was engaging and meaningful: “I enjoyed the incorporation of the technology to measure results” and  “These should be implemented in more lab techniques.”
