How to interpret the following error: "unable to access a folder for saving data"

On Windows machines:

It could be a privileges problem concerning writing to the folder where data is saved. Make sure that you have the correct rights to write to that folder.
The default folder location is : C:\Program Files\Biopac Student Lab\BSL 3.7\BSL Lessons 3.7\Data Files
Or My Documents if the user has restricted permissions.

On Macintosh machines:

If the number 5000 appears in the error dialog, the problem is a permissions error. Check to see if there is a permissions error with the Data Files folder. It should be world writeable (use File > Get Info in the Finder, under "Ownership & Permissions" make sure all of the access popups are set to "Read & Write").
