New Citations—Action Observation, Acupuncture, Gastrocnemius Muscle

CorteX_acupuncture1Acupuncture and Rheumatoid Arthritis: Researchers from University of Porto aimed to get results of the effect of acupuncture, as a treatment to Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) condition, and examine the benefits on the strength and nerve conduction improvements. To measure the nerve conduction and strength they used BIOPAC UIM100 module connected to a BIOPAC MP system with a hand dynamometer. Find the full the experiment here.

Affective Responses during Action Observation: Observers experiences present an experimental challenge, as such evaluations can be influenced by many factors. Researchers from Bangor University found that EMG measures capture minute shifts in emotional state that don’t reach an observer’s threshold for self-report. EMG offers a way to measure evaluations of stimuli when they don’t have affective elements. A BIOPAC MP36 system connected to a computer running AcqKnowledge Software detected and amplified the EMG signals which were used to test their hypothesis. Find the full article here.

Kinesio Taping Method on the Gastrocnemius Muscle: Researchers from Indiana Wesleyan University were determined to look at the effect of Kinesio Tex Gold on muscle inhibition when the tape is externally placed on a muscle group. The participating athletes were asked to do nine single leg jumps on their dominant leg before being taped. The athletes’ EMG was measured by a BIOPAC MP150 system to determine the amount of muscular activity. Read about the full experiment here.
